Show on mapAsBAA Singapore Safety Day is Singapore's preeminent business aviation safety conference and networking event for OEMs, MROs, FBOs, operators, flight crew, maintenance technicians, and other aviation safety professionals.
As part of Asian Business Aviation Week 2023 (AsBAA x CJI Asia) between 18 September to 22 September in Singapore, the AsBAA Singapore Safety Day 2023 (Main Sponsor: Bombardier) is an annual event promoting knowledge and best practices in aviation safety aimed at the Asian business aviation industry. The event hails from AsBAA's signature regional "Safety Days" successfully held in mainland China, Greater China, and Southeast Asia over the years.
This event is free of charge and is catered toward management, safety and quality managers, air crewmembers, maintenance specialists, and anyone who operates business aircraft in the region. Complimentary lunch and two coffee breaks will be served to all physical attendees.
Prior AsBAA safety events have brought together hundreds of renowned aviation safety experts from around the world to meet face to face - to share the industry's best practices and cultivate mutual business connections. AsBAA's safety days' government speakers and participants in the past have also included the NTSB, FAA, CAAC, Hong Kong AAIA, CAAS, Malaysia MOT, CAAP, and others.

Anthony heads operations at the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA), where he oversees government and public affairs, organizes safety programs, and leads industry initiatives. He was instrumental in launching the AsBAA Safety Summit, Safety Week, Safety Days, the Aircrew Mental Health initiative, and Asia's first Illegal Charter Reporting System (ICRS). In 2022, Anthony advised the Congress of the Philippines in the creation of the Philippine Transportation Safety Board (PTSB).
Anthony is a former editor-in-chief of a leading bilingual business aviation magazine covering the Asia-Pacific region, and is a contributing editor and writer for Aviation International News and Robb Report. Anthony is an avid FAA licensed pilot and holds ratings in both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft, was an air accident investigative assistant at the NTSB, and is a graduate of the NTSB Training Center and UC Davis. Chun Wei has over 20 years of experience in aeronautical engineering, operations as well as technology and industry development in aviation and energy sectors, having held various management positions in government agencies and large engineering corporation.
He is currently the Director of Technology & Partnerships with the Unmanned Systems Group, formulating strategies and policies, forging strategic partnerships to harmonize technology adoption in autonomy, connectivity and sustainability, to drive and ensure sustainable growth in the aviation sector.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr Tan held positions at Aviation Industry with CAAS, Industry Promotion and Human Capital Development with Energy Market Authority, Futures & Strategy with Ministry of Trade and Industry as well as technical and management positions with ST Engineering (Aerospace).
Mr Tan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours) with University of Sheffield, UK, and a Master of Science in Operations Research from Naval Postgraduate School, US.

Robert L. Sumwalt was sworn in as the 14th chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board on August 10, 2017, after being nominated by President Donald J. Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. He was reappointed as chairman by President Trump in August 2019, after being unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Mr. Sumwalt began his tenure at the NTSB in August 2006 when President George W. Bush appointed him to the Board and designated him as Vice Chairman of the Board. In November 2011, President Barack Obama reappointed Mr. Sumwalt to an additional five-year term as Board Member.
Chairman Sumwalt is a fierce advocate for improving safety in all modes of transportation, including teen driver safety, impaired driving, distractions in transportation, and several aviation and rail safety initiatives.
Before joining the NTSB, Mr. Sumwalt was a pilot for 32 years, including 24 years with Piedmont Airlines and US Airways. He accumulated over 14,000 flight hours. During his tenure at US Airways, he worked on special assignment to the flight safety department and served on the airline’s Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) monitoring team.
Following his airline career, Sumwalt managed the corporate aviation department for a Fortune 500 energy company.
In other notable accomplishments, he chaired the Air Line Pilots Association’s Human Factors and Training Group and co-founded the association’s critical incident response program. He also spent eight years as a consultant to NASA’s Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) and has written extensively on aviation safety matters. He has co-authored a book on aircraft accidents and has published more than 100 articles on transportation safety and aircraft accident investigation.
Chairman Sumwalt earned an undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Aeronautical Science (with Distinction) from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, with concentrations in aviation/aerospace safety systems and human factors aviation systems. In recognition of his accomplishments, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina, and an honorary doctorate from Embry-Riddle. He is an inductee into the South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame.
Sumwalt currently serves as the executive director of Embry-Riddle's Boeing Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety.

Jia Le Koh is the Partnerships and Regulatory Manager in Asia Pacific, for global Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) infrastructure developer and operator, Skyports.
He plays a critical role in Skyports’ development in Asia, focusing on acquiring new sites for vertiport development and subsequent operations. He also leads conversations that guide regulatory bodies, standards-setting organisations, and private sector companies to develop and mature the evolving AAM environment.
Jia Le is an advisor on the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) AAM Study Group, and a member in several other technical advisory groups for AAM infrastructure.
Prior to joining Skyports, Jia Le was the Deputy Head of Hub Strategy and Connectivity with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and held several appointments in international air transport, climate change and aviation safety.

Captain Kannan Perumal is an airline pilot with Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA) for the past 27 years. He has flown the Learjet 31, B777 variants and B747-400. Currently he is on the B787-10 fleet. Capt Kannan has a double degree in Aeronautical Engineering Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Aviation Management from Massey University New Zealand. He also has a Master’s degree in Aeronautics (Flight Dynamics) also form UTM. Currently he is almost completing his MSc Human Factors and Systems Safety at Lund University, Sweden. He was appointed as an Adjunct Professor both at the UTM Business School (Aviation Management) and Engineering Faculty (aeronautical Department) and currently an Adjunct at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Asia Campus). Captain Kannan is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers (SIAE), Technological Association of Malaysia (TAM – Aviation) and was an ex-committee member for the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Malaysia (HFEM – Chief Editor for the Journal HFEJ). He is a passionate aviator and always guide and inspire youngsters who are interested in aviation industry. In his pastime he is involved in various aviation related activities in Malaysia and Singapore.

Dr Yoshi joined International SOS in 2014 after brief stint as a helicopter medical flight crew in Okinawa. He was based in Singapore, where he coordinated and participated in numerous medical transportations, both via Air Ambulance and commercial aircraft. Dr. Marwan Maurizio Chedid is based in Singapore. Since 2016, he has been Technical Director of his own International consultancy business focussing on certification of aerospace organisations and products, air safety and associated training.
He graduated in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Politecnico di Milano, Italy (1998) followed by service in the Italian Army as Officer of Alpine until 2000.
He became involved with various roles of the Technical Department and Office of Airworthiness for the Type Investigation of new general aviation aircraft such as Vulcan Air VF600W (2000-2004), Pilatus PC-24 (2010-2014), Evektor EV-55 (2015-2017), Comac (2018) under EASA (EU), FAA (US), TCCA (CAN) and CAAC (CHN) Civil Aviation rules.
He was appointed as Certification Validation Engineer (CVE equivalent to FAA DER), System Monitoring and Certification Manager of an EASA approved Design Organisation gaining exposure in all related civil aviation requirements, initial and continuing airworthiness, and international recognised aerospace standards, ASTM International (American Society of Testing and Materials for Aerospace and Additive Manufacturing) and ASQ (American Society for Quality). Similarly, on the military side, Defence and Military Standards became part of his knowledge.
Mainly at Marshall Aerospace, Cambridge, UK (2004-2008), under Ministry of Defence (MoD) mandatory requirements he dealt with Continuing Airworthiness Maintenance Organisation (CAMO) challenges, such as Structural Integrity Projects leader/specialist (C-130J, Sentry E-3D and Tristar aircraft of the RAF and RAAF), where he learned the principles of Flight Loads Measurement applied through the final product design service life, and with the close interaction with QinetiQ, Farnborough, UK (formerly the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency - DERA) as certification representatives of the UK MoD.
This experience became relevant during the Pilatus PC-9A trainer aircraft Life Extension Program and topic of his PhD thesis (2018) at Cranfield University, UK, by means of data offered by the Italian Aerospace Research Centre, (CIRA), on a Dropped Transonic Flight Test (DTFT) Unmanned Space Vehicle (USV) to improve the quality of the final set of loads equations by means of numerical, and statistics tools, and experimental, ground and flight test, techniques.
Additional to leading knowledge in this industry, he was exposed to the academic, lecturing, and research world. This included collaborations with the University of Naples, "Federico Secondo", working in areas such as static and dynamic landing gear certification testing controlled by statistical methods to improve the final product quality design. Cranfield University, during his MSc by Research on composite materials (2010), as assistant researcher and lecturer of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) at the Boeing IVHM Centre, Cranfield University.
Over the following years he has begun focussing on eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing), LSA (Light Sport Aircraft), Light Rotorcraft and UAV, and also to the science of Aircraft Accident Investigation, as a recognised ICAO Annex 13 Accident Investigator (Safety and Accident Investigation Centre at Cranfield University) and technical advisor of AAIB (Air Accident Investigation Brunch) Malaysia, as platforms for his Air Safety and Flight Loads Measurement research and certification studies.

Anita is engaged as Lead Counsel for aviation catastrophic losses in Asia and has considerable dispute resolution expertise in single and cross-border litigation.

James is a Partner in HFW's market leading aviation team with over ten years' experience tackling complex legal issues in the aerospace, transport, logistics, and insurance industries.
He is a dedicated advisor to the airline, general, and business aviation sectors and provides advice across various jurisdictions relating to commercial litigation, regulatory issues, and the drafting/review of commercial contracts. He has also handled some of the region's largest aviation accidents in recent years for both operators and their insurers.
James is also developing a practice which focuses on emerging technologies and their application to the aerospace sector. This includes actively advising the aviation industry as to the legal implementation of such technologies as well as digital transformation projects. He actively supports the start-up industry and was recently appointed as a mentor to Singapore's Starburst Accelerator program where he works with up and coming aviation tech start-ups.
James has significant client facing in-house experience gained through corporate secondments at AIG where he held the position of Complex Claims Adjuster in the Aerospace Claims Department as well as at the insurance broker Willis where he worked as a Legal Counsel in the Willis' Legal Department.

He plays a critical role in Skyports’ development in Asia, focusing on acquiring new sites for vertiport development and subsequent operations. He also leads conversations that guide regulatory bodies, standards-setting organisations, and private sector companies to develop and mature the evolving AAM environment.
Jia Le is an advisor on the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) AAM Study Group, and a member in several other technical advisory groups for AAM infrastructure.
Prior to joining Skyports, Jia Le was the Deputy Head of Hub Strategy and Connectivity with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and held several appointments in international air transport, climate change and aviation safety.
Anthony heads operations at the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA), where he oversees government and public affairs, organizes safety programs, and leads industry initiatives. He was instrumental in launching the AsBAA Safety Summit, Safety Week, Safety Days, the Aircrew Mental Health initiative, and Asia's first Illegal Charter Reporting System (ICRS). In 2022, Anthony advised the Congress of the Philippines in the creation of the Philippine Transportation Safety Board (PTSB).
Anthony is a former editor-in-chief of a leading bilingual business aviation magazine covering the Asia-Pacific region, and is a contributing editor and writer for Aviation International News and Robb Report. Anthony is an avid FAA licensed pilot and holds ratings in both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft, was an air accident investigative assistant at the NTSB, and is a graduate of the NTSB Training Center and UC Davis. Anthony speaks English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
Captain Kannan Perumal is an airline pilot with Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA) for the past 27 years. He has flown the Learjet 31, B777 variants and B747-400. Currently he is on the B787-10 fleet. Capt Kannan has a double degree in Aeronautical Engineering Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Aviation Management from Massey University New Zealand. He also has a Master’s degree in Aeronautics (Flight Dynamics) also form UTM. Currently he is almost completing his MSc Human Factors and Systems Safety at Lund University, Sweden. He was appointed as an Adjunct Professor both at the UTM Business School (Aviation Management) and Engineering Faculty (aeronautical Department) and currently an Adjunct at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Asia Campus). Captain Kannan is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers (SIAE), Technological Association of Malaysia (TAM – Aviation) and was an ex-committee member for the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Malaysia (HFEM – Chief Editor for the Journal HFEJ). He is a passionate aviator and always guide and inspire youngsters who are interested in aviation industry. In his pastime he is involved in various aviation related activities in Malaysia and Singapore.
Anita is a Partner and Head of Aviation in the Singapore office of Kennedys. She has over 20 years’ experience in advising a wide range of clients in the aviation industry, including insurers, airlines, regulators, general aviation operators, ground handlers and maintenance organisations.
Anita qualified in England and Wales and was involved in one of the highest value personal injury actions arising out of an aviation accident in the UK. She has extensive experience in English litigation and various legal systems worldwide, including highly complex disputes in the US and Europe with a particular focus on the Asia Pacific region. Anita is engaged as Lead Counsel for aviation catastrophic losses in Asia and has considerable dispute resolution expertise in single and cross-border litigation.
Anita is particularly active in the general aviation arena acting as Lead Counsel for high profile aircraft losses in a number of key jurisdictions, including South Korea, Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia and also handles complex and high value hull subrogation claims.
Anita is widely recognised as a leading practitioner in the aviation insurance market, both across the Asia Pacific region and in London. She also advises airlines, airport authorities and insurers on non-contentious issues including contractual liability, risk management and regulatory matters and conducts regular training seminars.
Anita’s clients include Singapore Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, China Airlines and Bangkok Airways and a number of general aviation operators in the region.
Anita is recognised as a leading practitioner in her field in Who’s Who Legal, the Guide to the World’s Leading Aviation Lawyers and co-authored the chapter on Singapore Aviation law in the third edition of the Aviation Law Review. She is a regular speaker at Aviation conferences around the world.
Chun Wei has over 20 years of experience in aeronautical engineering, operations as well as technology and industry development in aviation and energy sectors, having held various management positions in government agencies and large engineering corporation.
He is currently the Director of Technology & Partnerships with the Unmanned Systems Group, formulating strategies and policies, forging strategic partnerships to harmonize technology adoption in autonomy, connectivity and sustainability, to drive and ensure sustainable growth in the aviation sector.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr Tan held positions at Aviation Industry with CAAS, Industry Promotion and Human Capital Development with Energy Market Authority, Futures & Strategy with Ministry of Trade and Industry as well as technical and management positions with ST Engineering (Aerospace).
Mr Tan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours) with University of Sheffield, UK, and a Master of Science in Operations Research from Naval Postgraduate School, US.
